Saddleworth Mountain Time Trial
Only 2 weeks to go until the Saddleworth Mountain Time Trial, hosted by Saddleworth Clarion, on Wednesday 16 May 2018.
Prize fund of £150 per winner is again kindly being provided by Rapha. Equal prize funds will be awarded to the 1st three male and female riders. The fastest female rider will also receive the Annie Kenney trophy, which is being presented for the first time.
An encouraging number of entries have been placed to date but you still have time to enter. Please note entries close on 5 May. Entry is via the Cycling Time Trials website –https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/race-details/16287
When entering please tick the box to indicate “I am happy to be included as a reserve rider”. We are limited to a maximum of 75 riders and indeed the event in 2017 was oversubscribed. However last year everyone who elected to be on the reserve list and turned up was able to ride the Mountain Time Trial.
This is a challenging sporting course of 28.9km (17.9 miles) with over 600m (1990ft) of ascent. The route takes the riders up the Isle of Skye toward Holmfirth, turning for Meltham and returning up Wessenden Head and descending to the start. Race HQ is again at the excellent Saddleworth Cricket, Bowls and Tennis Club, Calf Lane, OL3 7HY.
Last year’s winner James Gullen of JLT Condor described our Mountain Time Trial as a great event and has indicated his intention to defend his title this year if he can fit it into his schedule. James is due to be riding the Tour de Yorkshire again starting on 3rd May. We wish him well for a successful four day Tour de Yorkshire and will be supporting at the roadside.
